Social Housing Bill 2016

Public bill · Private Member · Introduced

A proposed change to planning rules would require a much larger share of homes in new private housing projects to be set aside for social and affordable housing. It would raise the minimum share in these schemes to at least 25% and, for strategic development zones, at least 30% of land zoned for housing would have to be reserved for this purpose. It matters because it could increase the number of lower-cost homes built alongside private development and put more affordable housing into areas where large-scale building is planned.

Formal long title

Bill entitled an Act to amend the Planning and Development Act 2000 to provide for an increased percentage of social and affordable housing in private residential developments and in strategic development zones
