Wind Turbine Regulation Bill 2016

Public bill · Private Member · Introduced

Sets strict rules for wind farms: they could only be built in places approved in county development plans, and would have to stay far enough from homes to avoid noise and shadow flicker, with a minimum setback of ten times the turbine’s height. It also requires fuller public notice and meetings before planning permission is sought, asks developers to prove they can cover local infrastructure damage and decommission turbines properly, and gives nearby residents a chance to buy up to 20% of a project. It would also restrict exporting wind-generated electricity outside Ireland unless there is already enough renewable power for the island to be self-sufficient.

Formal long title

Bill entitled an Act to regulate wind turbines through providing limits on the exportation of product generated from wind turbines; protecting nearby dwellings from noise and shadow flicker by providing minimum set back distances; allowing access to public consultative processes and related matters
