Pension Fund (Prohibition of Levies) Bill 2016
Public bill · Private Member · Introduced
The proposal would ban any future law, ministerial order, or directive from imposing a levy or similar charge on pension funds without consent. Its aim is to protect pension savings from being tapped through charges such as the stamp duty levy that had been applied to pension funds. It matters because it would limit the State’s ability to raise money from pension funds and give savers and pension schemes more certainty.
Formal long title
Bill entitled an Act to provide for a prohibition on legislation which would unilaterally impose a levy, or similar charge, on pension funds
