Rent Certainty (No. 2) Bill 2016
Public bill · Private Member · Presented
Would limit rent increases in the private rented sector by tying any rent review to the Consumer Price Index, so rent could not rise or fall by more than the rate of inflation. It would also remove an existing rule in the 2004 housing law and replace it with this inflation-based cap. In plain terms, it was meant to give renters more predictable rises and reduce sudden rent jumps.
Formal long title
Bill entitled an Act to amend the Residential Tenancies Act 2004 to provide for rent certainty in the private rental market by linking changes in rent arising from a rent review to the Consumer Price Index
