Secure Rents and Tenancies Bill 2016
Public bill · Private Member · Introduced
Aimed at making renting more stable and predictable, this measure would tie rent increases in the private rental sector to inflation rather than allowing larger jumps at review time. It would also make certain long-term tenancies open-ended instead of ending after four years, and stop landlords from ending a tenancy just because they want to sell the property.
Formal long title
Bill entitled an Act to amend the Residential Tenancies Act 2004 to provide for rent certainty in the private rental market by linking changes in rent arising from a rent review to the Consumer Price Index and to provide for greater security of tenure by making Part 4 tenancies of indefinite duration and removing sale of property as grounds for terminating a tenancy
