Civil Liability (Amendment) Bill 2017

It would let courts pay compensation for very serious, life-changing injuries as regular payments over time instead of one large lump sum. Those payments could cover future care, treatment, assistive technology, and sometimes future lost earnings, with safeguards to make sure the money is secure, keeps up with inflation, and is protected if the injured person later goes bankrupt. It also gives these payments tax-free status and adjusts insurance and court-cost rules to fit this new approach.
