Housing (Homeless Families) Bill 2017

Public bill · Private Member · Introduced

The Housing (Homeless Families) Bill 2017 would require housing authorities to treat a homeless parent and any child living with them as a family unit when deciding on emergency or temporary accommodation. It would also make the child’s best interests a top priority and push authorities to provide safe accommodation that helps protect and support homeless families. The aim is to give homeless children and families clearer legal recognition and stronger protection when they are seeking help.

Formal long title

Bill entitled an Act to make provision in relation to requests for accommodation by homeless families, for that purpose to amend the Housing Act 1988 and to provide for related matters.
