No. 102 of 2017

Defamation (Amendment) Bill 2017

Public bill · Private Member · Introduced

Removes the blasphemy offence from Ireland’s Defamation Act 2009 by deleting the parts of that law that created it. In plain terms, it would stop blasphemy from being a criminal offence and clear that provision out of the defamation law. This matters because it would modernise the law and end a rule that could punish speech on religious matters.

Formal long title
