No. 107 of 2017Thirty-fifth Amendment of the Constitution (Separation of Church and State) Bill 2017
Public bill · Private Member · Introduced
Would remove a range of religious references from the Constitution so it reads as a more secular text. It would delete language about God and Jesus from the preamble and office oaths, remove the constitutional reference to blasphemy, and strip out other faith-based wording from several articles and the postscript. The aim is to separate religion from the State and make public office and constitutional language less explicitly religious.
