National Archives (Amendment) Bill 2017
Public bill · Government · Presented
Moves the State toward a 20-year rule for transferring certain government records to the National Archives, instead of waiting 30 years. It lets the Minister for Culture, Heritage and the Gaeltacht, with the agreement of key Ministers, order earlier transfer of records that are historically important, useful for fair public reporting, and ready to be properly handled. Records already sent early would not need to be transferred again, and once transferred they can be open for public inspection.
Formal long title
Bill entitled an Act to extend provision in relation to Departmental records liable to be transferred to the National Archives and for that purpose to amend the National Archives Act 1986; and to provide for related matters
