Planning and Development (Strategic Infrastructure) (Amendment) Bill 2017

Public bill · Private Member · Introduced

Changes the planning rules so that large data centres and other important IT projects can be treated like major strategic developments and fast-tracked through the planning process, if they meet criteria set out by the Minister. It also makes clear that any regulations made under the law must be laid before the Oireachtas and can be отменed by either House within 21 sitting days. In plain terms, it is aimed at helping big digital infrastructure projects get planning decisions more quickly, especially where they are economically important to the area.

Formal long title

Bill entitled an Act to amend the Planning and Development Act 2000 to allow data centres and other key IT infrastructure to be included in the criteria for access to the Strategic Development planning procedure
