Maternity Protection (Local Government Members) Bill 2017
Public bill · Private Member · Introduced
Extends maternity leave rights to councillors and other local government members so they can take full maternity leave without losing their seat for being absent. It changes the local government rules that could otherwise treat a prolonged absence as a problem for membership. The aim is to make it easier for elected local representatives to have children without having to choose between family life and public office.
Formal long title
