Multi-Party Actions Bill 2017

Public bill · Private Member · Introduced

Creates a system for handling civil cases where lots of people have similar claims or defences. A judge can group these cases on a register, choose a lead case or cases to decide the shared issues, and make those decisions bind the other registered cases, which should save time and reduce legal costs. It also sets rules for appointing a lead solicitor, managing costs, and keeping the court process fair and efficient.

Formal long title

Bill entitled an Act to provide for certain procedural and other changes in civil actions so as to provide for the bringing of Multi-Party Actions; to reduce the cost of litigation; and to provide for related matters
