Equality (Miscellaneous Provisions) (No.2) Bill 2017
Public bill · Private Member · Introduced
The proposal would add mental health status as a protected ground in Irish equality law, so people could not be treated unfairly in work, hiring, or access to services because of it. Its main aim is to move protection away from a narrow medical view of mental illness and recognise mental health status on a broader human-rights basis. That matters because it would make it clearer that discrimination linked to mental health is unlawful.
Formal long title
Bill entitled an Act to amend the Employment Equality Act 1998 and the Equal Status Act 2000 by prohibiting discrimination on the basis of a person's mental health status and to provide for related matters
