Electoral (Amendment) (Dáil Constituencies) Bill 2017
Public bill · Government · Presented
Rearranges Dáil constituencies after the 2016 census so they better match population changes, and sets the number of TDs at 160 when the next Dáil is dissolved. It replaces the existing 40 constituencies with 39 new ones, with different seat numbers across the country, and updates the rules for the next constituency review after the following census. It matters because it changes how the Dáil is elected and how representation is spread across Ireland.
Formal long title
Bill entitled an Act to provide for the number of members of Dáil Éireann; for the revision of constituencies and for the number of members to be elected for such constituencies; to amend the Electoral Act 1997 ; and to provide for matters connected therewith
