Consumer Rights (Gift Vouchers) Bill 2017

Public bill · Private Member · Introduced

The Consumer Rights (Gift Vouchers) Bill 2017 would make gift vouchers fairer for shoppers. It would stop vouchers from expiring for less than five years after purchase, and if a shorter expiry date was printed, it would be treated as five years instead. It would also ban extra charges for issuing a voucher, keeping an unused balance on it, or paying back any remaining credit. In plain terms, it is meant to stop businesses from taking away value too quickly or by adding hidden fees.

Formal long title

Bill entitled an Act to protect consumers by limiting expiry dates on gift vouchers and banning certain fees and charges.
