Personal Insolvency (Amendment) Bill 2017

Public bill · Private Member · Introduced

The Personal Insolvency (Amendment) Bill 2017 would make a small but important change to Ireland’s personal insolvency rules. It would clarify when a person whose debt relief proposal has been rejected can still ask the court to step in, as long as the debts involved include a relevant debt and the personal insolvency practitioner believes there are reasonable grounds for the application. In plain terms, it aims to remove uncertainty in how certain cases are handled by the courts. That matters because it could make the process fairer and more predictable for people trying to deal with serious debt problems.
