Community Energy (Co-ownership) Bill 2017
Public bill · Private Member · Introduced
The proposal would require large renewable energy projects, especially wind and solar, to offer local people a chance to buy about 30% of the project. It also sets out how that stake could be held through a community co-op, with safeguards so the money is protected and spread fairly across the local area. Its aim is to keep more of the benefits of wind and solar power in the places where the projects are built, giving communities a financial stake and making new developments more acceptable locally.
Formal long title
Bill entitled an Act to create a planning condition that enables local communities to invest in a renewable energy project; to create a new prescribed class of development to which such a planning condition can be attached; and to provide for other related matters
