Statistics (1926 Census Release) Bill 2017
Public bill · Private Member · Introduced
Would remove the usual 100-year secrecy rule for the 1926 census and let it be opened to the public much sooner, with the Minister able to set conditions for online access. It would give the first census taken after the State was founded a special heritage status because it fills a major gap between the 1911 census and later records, making it valuable for family history, local history, and other research.
Formal long title
Bill entitled an Act to amend the Statistics Act 1993, in relation to the first census of the population of Ireland taken since the establishment of the State; to afford that census a special heritage status and to have such released to the public for genealogical, historical and other research.
