Online Advertising and Social Media (Transparency) Bill 2017
Public bill · Private Member · Introduced
Creates rules to make online political ads more transparent. It would require ads promoting candidates, parties, or other political issues on large online platforms to show a clear notice naming who paid for them and who the ad is aimed at, and it would make it an offence to give false information for that notice. It would also ban using bots to fake a swarm of separate accounts or profiles that are really controlled as one political operation.
Formal long title
Bill entitled an Act to provide for transparency in the disclosure of information in online political advertising; and to provide for related matters
