Courts Service (Amendment) Bill 2017
Public bill · Private Member · Introduced
Seen on page 3, the proposal would stop the Courts Service from investing money it holds on behalf of wards of court and some children’s court awards in tobacco-related companies. It would also require the Courts Service to tell those families, in writing, that their money is no longer tied up in tobacco investments. The aim is to make the handling of these funds match Ireland’s anti-smoking goals and avoid public money supporting an industry linked to preventable deaths.
Formal long title
Bill entitled an Act to amend the Courts Service Act 1998 to prohibit investments by the Courts Service in tobacco related companies and to provide for related matters.
