Microgeneration Support Scheme Bill 2017
Public bill · Private Member · Introduced
The measure would require larger electricity suppliers to pay people and communities that generate their own renewable electricity and export it to the grid, such as from small wind, solar, hydro, or renewable-based heat-and-power systems. It also sets out that the government would define minimum prices and contract terms, and aims to have suppliers source some of their electricity from microgeneration by 2025. The aim is to make small-scale clean power more worthwhile to produce, helping households, farms, and local projects cut bills and sell surplus electricity.
Formal long title
Bill entitled an Act to provide for the growth of electricity production from micro-generators through a supplier obligation to provide a tariff for electricity exported to the grid
