Bail (Amendment) Bill 2017
Public bill · Private Member · Introduced
A stricter bail regime for repeat burglars and other serious offenders is proposed. Courts would have to refuse bail in more cases where doing so is needed to stop someone committing another serious crime, and people charged with burglary or aggravated burglary could be denied bail if they have a recent history of similar offences or multiple pending cases. It would also let courts require electronic monitoring as a bail condition in some of those cases, aiming to reduce repeat offending and protect homes and communities.
