Intoxicating Liquor (Amendment) Bill 2017
Public bill · Private Member · Introduced
The measure updates Ireland’s alcohol licensing rules by removing Good Friday from a number of long-standing restrictions, so pubs and other licensed premises can sell alcohol on that day in the same way as on other ordinary days, while keeping the special limits that still apply on Christmas Day and Saint Patrick’s Day. It also tidies up older laws on opening hours and hotel service so the rules are clearer and more consistent. In practical terms, it matters because it loosens one of the last major nationwide bans on alcohol sales.
Formal long title
Bill entitled an Act to amend the Licensing Acts 1833 to 2011 and to provide for related matters.
