Consumer Insurance Contracts Bill 2017
Public bill · Private Member · Introduced
Sets out new rules for insurance sold to consumers so insurers must ask clear, specific questions, handle claims fairly and promptly, and give customers a short cooling-off period and clearer renewal information. It also limits unfair contract terms, makes claims less likely to be refused for minor mistakes or technical breaches, strengthens rights for injured third parties to claim directly from insurers, and gives courts power to adjust outcomes where either side breaks the rules. It matters because it shifts the balance away from harsh insurance practices and towards clearer, fairer treatment for customers.
Formal long title
