Education (Disadvantage Committee) Bill 2017

The bill would require the Minister for Education and Skills to set up an Educational Disadvantage Committee to advise on how to identify and reduce educational disadvantage. It would bring together representatives from relevant voluntary and other groups, serve terms of up to three years, and ask the committee to recommend priority actions while taking account of available resources. Its aim is to help shape practical policies so children and communities facing extra barriers can be better supported in education.

Formal long title

Bill entitled an Act to amend the Education Act 1998 to make provision whereby the Minister for Education and Skills shall establish an Educational Disadvantage Committee to advise him or her on policies and strategies to be adopted to identify and correct educational disadvantage.
