Welfare of Greyhounds (Amendment) Bill 2017
Public bill · Private Member · Introduced
Controls where Irish greyhounds can be sent overseas, so exports would only be allowed to countries that meet welfare standards set out on a yearly published “white list.” It would be an offence to export, or help export, a greyhound to a country not on that list, and any export to a listed country would need a licence. The aim is to stop greyhounds being sent to places where they may be mistreated and to put stronger rules and reporting around the trade.
Formal long title
Bill entitled an Act to control the export of greyhounds and for that purpose to provide for the publication of a white list to which the export of greyhounds under licence shall be permissible; to make it an offence for a person to export a greyhound to a country which is not included in the white list; to amend the Welfare of Greyhounds Act 2011 and to provide for related matters.
