National Minimum Wage (Protection of Employee Tips) Bill 2017

Aims to stop employers from keeping tips and service charges that customers intend for staff in cafés, restaurants and other service jobs. It would define what counts as a tip, require businesses to publish their tipping policy, and let workers claim compensation if tips are withheld; deliberate breaches could also be prosecuted and fined.

Bill entitled an Act to amend the National Minimum Wage Act 2000 to provide for additional protections for employees in the service sector to ensure they receive tips or gratuities paid by customers and to provide for related matters.
