Medical Practitioners (Amendment) Bill 2017
Public bill · Private Member · Introduced
Requires doctors to tell the Medical Council every year about any money, gifts, grants or other benefits worth more than €600 they receive from medical equipment suppliers or pharmaceutical companies. The Council would keep a public, searchable register of these declarations, and doctors who failed to report could face a complaint process. It matters because it aims to make financial ties between doctors and industry more open and easier for patients and the public to see.
Formal long title
Bill entitled an Act to require medical practitioners to declare any income or gift received from medical suppliers or pharmaceutical companies to the Medical Council in statutory declaration annually
