Diplomatic Relations (Miscellaneous Provisions) Bill 2017
Public bill · Government · Presented
Updates Ireland’s rules on diplomats, international organisations and their families. It would remove an old requirement for Government approval before an Irish person can be appointed to work for an international organisation in Ireland, clarify and tidy up the rules on diplomatic privileges and immunities, and set out which diplomatic and associated staff are outside normal immigration controls. It also closes a loophole so time spent in Ireland under diplomatic immigration exemptions does not count toward naturalisation, and lets certain non-EU family members of diplomats work without an employment permit.
Formal long title
Bill entitled an Act to amend the Diplomatic Relations and Immunities Act 1967, the Irish Nationality and Citizenship Act 1956, the Immigration Act 2004 and the Employment Permits Act 2003; and to provide for related matters.
