Litter Pollution (Amendment) Bill 2017

Public bill · Private Member · Introduced

Raises the penalties for littering offences by increasing the maximum fines courts can impose, including much higher fines where the offence is serious or where the wrongdoing continues after conviction. It also opens the way for people whose property is damaged by littering to take a civil action for compensation. The aim is to make litter laws harder to ignore and to give stronger protection to communities and property owners.

Formal long title

Bill entitled an Act to amend the Litter Pollution Act 1997 to provide for increased fines where a person is convicted of an offence under that Act; and to provide for related matters
