Declaration of Independence Day Bill 2017
Public bill · Private Member · Introduced
Creates a new national day to mark 21 January each year, the date the First Dáil met in 1919 and adopted the Declaration of Independence. It would recognise that historic moment in Ireland’s move toward self-government, but it would not make the day a public holiday.
Formal long title
Bill entitled an Act to recognise the meeting of the First Dáil and the Declaration of Independence made on 21 January 1919 and to provide for a "Declaration of Independence Day" to be held on 21 January annually and to provide for related matters
