No. 74 of 2017

Road Traffic (Quads and Scramblers) (Amendment) Bill 2017

Public bill · Private Member · Introduced

The bill would give Gardaí power to take quad bikes and scrambler motorcycles off the road when they are being used illegally, and to hold them afterwards. It also lets the Minister make rules on how these vehicles can be detained, removed, stored, released, or disposed of. The bill defines “public place” broadly, covering roads, streets, public areas, and outdoor spaces such as parks used for public recreation. It matters because it is aimed at tackling dangerous or nuisance use of quads and scramblers in places where the public can be affected.

Formal long title

Bill entitled an Act to amend and extend the Road Traffic Acts 1961 to 2016 to give Gardaí the power to seize and detain quad bikes and scrambler motorcycles when being used unlawfully and to provide for related matters
