Rugby World Cup 2023 Bill 2017
Public bill · Government · Presented
Allows the Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport, with the agreement of other senior ministers, to help fund and back Ireland’s bid to host the 2023 Rugby World Cup. It would let the Minister buy shares in the company running the tournament, provide loans or guarantees, pay the host fee, buy commercial rights linked to the event, and give assurances about public services needed to stage it. It matters because it sets out the legal powers the State would need to support the bid and, if successful, help deliver the event on the island of Ireland.
Formal long title
Bill entitled an Act to enable the Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport to support the bid to host the Rugby World Cup on the territory of the island of Ireland in 2023 and, if the bid is successful, the staging of the tournament, and to provide for related matters
