Industrial Relations (Defence Forces) (Amendment) Bill 2017
Public bill · Private Member · Introduced
The proposal would let members of the Defence Forces and their representative groups use the Workplace Relations Commission and the Labour Court, just like many other workers can. It would also change the law so Defence Forces members count as “workers” for these purposes, and remove limits that stop their associations from linking with trade unions or on members joining a union. In plain terms, it aims to give Defence Forces personnel stronger workplace rights and a clearer way to raise pay and conditions issues.
Formal long title
Bill entitled an Act to permit access to the Workplace Relations Commission and Labour Court to members of the Defence Forces and their representative associations; to amend the definition of "worker" in the Industrial Relations Act 1990; to remove restrictions on representative associations associating with trade unions or members of the Defence Forces having trade union membership; and for these and other purposes to amend the Industrial Relations Act 1990 and the Defence (Amendment) Act 1990; and to provide for related matters
