Waste Reduction Bill 2017

Public bill · Private Member · Introduced

Aims to cut waste by banning the sale or free giveaway of single-use plastic cups, glasses, plates and similar tableware from 1 January 2020, except for items that can be composted in a normal home compost bin. It also requires a deposit-and-return system for beverage containers to be set up by 1 July 2019, so people can get money back when they return empty drinks containers. This would encourage reuse and recycling and reduce litter and landfill.

Formal long title

Bill entitled an Act to provide for a ban on single-use non-compostable cups and other tableware and for the introduction of deposit and return schemes for beverage containers
