Thirty-fifth Amendment of the Constitution (Protection of Pension Property Rights) Bill 2017
Public bill · Private Member · Introduced
The proposal would change the Constitution to protect pension funds from being hit by a new stamp duty levy or similar charge imposed without agreement. It says pension funds set up properly under pension law should not be singled out for such a charge through future tax or stamp duty legislation, ministerial directions, or statutory rules. In plain terms, it aims to give pensions stronger protection against being used as a source of extra State charges.
