Greyhound Racing Bill 2018
Public bill · Government · Presented
A wide-ranging reform of greyhound racing law, this measure would tighten oversight of the industry, give regulators stronger tools to investigate and punish breaches, and put greyhound welfare at the centre of Bord na gCon’s work. It would rename the body as Rásaíocht Con Éireann, modernise governance, add clearer rules on doping, traceability, licences and track standards, and allow tougher sanctions such as disqualification, exclusion and larger fines. It also updates animal welfare rules linked to greyhounds and other animals, aiming to improve integrity, safety and public confidence in the sport.
Formal long title
Bill entitled an Act to amend and extend the Greyhound Industry Acts 1958 and 1993, the Welfare of Greyhounds Act 2011, the Animal Health and Welfare Act 2013; to change the name of Bord na gCon and to provide for related matters.
