Housing Emergency Measures in the Public Interest Bill 2018
Public bill · Private Member · Introduced
Declared a housing emergency for three years, with a review to be brought before the Oireachtas at the end of that period. During that emergency, it would stop evictions from buy-to-let homes and homes with mortgages, freeze all rent increases, and cut existing private rents to a “reasonable” level linked to local authority rents for similar homes. It is aimed at tackling the housing and homelessness crisis by using the public interest to put stronger limits on private property rights.
Formal long title
Bill entitled an Act to, in the public interest, serve the common good in the matter of housing.
