Telecommunications Services (Ducting and Cables) Bill 2018
Public bill · Government · Presented
The legislation would give the Minister for Communications, Climate Action and Environment lasting access rights over certain private land in the Galway-Mayo ducting and cable route so the fibre network can be operated and maintained. It also sets out compensation for landowners whose land value is reduced or who suffer damage or disturbance, while requiring the Minister to repair damage and avoid unnecessary harm. Landowners must not block access or damage the telecommunications equipment, and the measure is intended to support high-speed broadband in a part of the country that has been poorly served.
Formal long title
Bill entitled an Act to provide for the vesting in the Minister for Communications, Climate Action and Environment of certain legal interests relating to ducting and cables for the purposes of the performance of any of his or her functions for telecommunications purposes; to provide for compensation; to provide for certain obligations; and to provide for related matters
