Children's Digital Protection Bill 2018
Public bill · Private Member · Introduced
Sets up a way to get harmful online material that is legal but unsuitable for children taken down more quickly. It places the first responsibility on the internet provider hosting or making the content available, and lets the communications regulator order blocking or removal when the content encourages suicide or dangerous food deprivation, with penalties for refusing to comply. It matters because it tries to fill a gap in how Ireland deals with unsafe online content and gives a clearer enforcement route than relying on complaints to providers alone.
Formal long title
Bill entitled an Act to regulate legal but age-inappropriate content by way of takedown enforcement procedure. This procedure will operate where material falls within the definition of harmful material set out in this Act.
