Treatment of Cancer (Advertisements) Bill 2018
Public bill · Private Member · Introduced
A new set of rules would ban ads that offer to treat cancer or claim to cure it, including messages that suggest people do not need medical advice, diagnosis, treatment, or surgery. The aim is to stop misleading or dangerous cancer claims, including those spread online or on social media, and to make breaching the ban a criminal offence with fines or prison possible. It would also give the Health Products Regulatory Authority a role in enforcing the ban and require a review of how the law works after it starts.
Formal long title
Bill entitled an Act to provide, in the interests of the common good, for the prohibition of certain advertisements relating to the treatment of cancer and to provide for related matters.
