Radiological Protection (Amendment) Bill 2018
Public bill · Government · Presented
Updates Ireland’s rules on radiation safety so they better match modern EU standards. It moves from a one-size-fits-all licensing system to a risk-based approach, with lighter registration for lower-risk activities and tougher controls for higher-risk ones, while also giving people clear appeal rights if the Environmental Protection Agency refuses or restricts permission. It also shifts several radiation and nuclear-related powers from other Ministers to the Minister for Communications, Climate Action and Environment, and tidies up older legal definitions and procedures.
