Consumer Protection (Regulation of Credit Servicing Firms) Bill 2018
Public bill · Private Member · Introduced
Extends Central Bank protections to cover people and firms that buy mortgage and SME loans, not just the companies that service them. It would let the Central Bank treat these loan owners as regulated firms, set conditions on them, apply consumer protection rules, and give borrowers access to the Financial Services Ombudsman if they have a complaint. It also aims to stop loan sales from leaving borrowers worse off and requires the Central Bank to publish regular figures on small and medium business loans.
Formal long title
Bill entitled an Act to provide for the regulation of credit servicing firms and for that purpose to amend the Central Bank Act 1997.
