Gambling Control Bill 2018

Public bill · Private Member · Introduced

Sets up a full licensing and control system for gambling in Ireland, replacing older betting and gaming laws with one modern framework. It creates a new Gambling Control Ireland office to grant licences, inspect operators, set rules, keep a public register, and work with other agencies and other countries. It also tightens consumer protections by banning gambling on credit, limiting access by under-18s, requiring self-exclusion options and complaint systems, and placing strict rules on advertising, promotions, sponsorship, and risky machines such as fixed-odds betting terminals. The measure matters because it brings remote gambling, casinos, lotteries, bingo, betting shops, and temporary events under one set of rules aimed at fairness, safer gambling, and keeping criminal activity out of the sector.
