Trade Union Representation (Miscellaneous Provisions) Bill 2018
Public bill · Private Member · Introduced
Recognised trade unions would gain a clearer legal right to represent their members in talks with employers about pay, working conditions and other terms, and to deal with grievance and disciplinary issues on their members’ behalf. Employers, or groups of employers, would have to recognise that representative role for unions holding the proper licence, and the bill also aligns a later industrial relations law with that definition of collective bargaining. It matters because it would strengthen union access to workplace negotiations and make employer recognition of union representation more explicit.
Formal long title
Bill entitled an Act to amend the Trade Union Act 1941 and the Industrial Relations (Amendment) Act 2001 to confer on authorised unions the right to have their representative duties to their members for collective bargaining and disciplinary matters recognised by employers and to provide for related matters.
