Provision of Objective Sex Education Bill 2018
Public bill · Private Member · Introduced
The proposal would give students a guaranteed right to factual, age-appropriate relationships and sexuality education in every school, even where a school has a religious or other distinctive ethos. It would require the Education Minister to make sure the curriculum covers consent, sexuality, gender, contraception and termination of pregnancy, and that it is taught in an objective way rather than shaped by a school’s beliefs. The aim is to make sex education more consistent, more factual, and available to all students.
Formal long title
Bill entitled an Act to guarantee the right of students to receive factual and objective relationships and sexuality education without regard to the characteristic spirit of the school
