Local Government Accountability Bill 2018

The proposed law would give the Minister power to set rules requiring local authority staff to reply to councillors’ queries on behalf of constituents or community groups within set time limits: an acknowledgement within seven working days and a full reply within 14 days. It would also let the Minister publish quarterly league tables showing how quickly different local authorities respond. The aim is to make local government more accountable, more consistent, and more responsive to the public.
