First Aid and Mental Health in Schools (Initial Teacher Training) Bill 2018

Public bill · Private Member · Introduced

Requires new teacher training courses to include occupational first aid and mental health first aid, so trainee teachers are prepared to respond to injuries and mental health crises in schools. It would also make proof of that training a condition for getting a teaching job, with school management responsible for checking that staff have it. The aim is to raise safety and wellbeing standards in schools and give children faster, better support when problems arise.

Formal long title

Bill entitled an Act to provide for the introduction of a requirement that initial teacher training encompasses training in occupational first aid response and mental health first aid; and to provide for related matters
