Broadcasting (Amendment) Bill 2018

Would require radio stations with sound broadcasting contracts to set aside at least 5% of their music airtime for songs with Irish-language lyrics. It also orders a review within three years, with a report to the Oireachtas and possible consideration of raising the quota. The aim is to increase Irish-language music on radio and support the language in everyday broadcasting.
Formal long title
Bill entitled an Act to provide for a minimum percentage of Irish language works in radio music programming, and for that purpose to amend the Broadcasting Act 2009; and to provide for related matters.
